As
a first-timer to Illuminate Yaletown, and a newbie to the whole of the
Lower Mainland, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I attended on
Saturday, February 11th. Surfacing from the
Yaletown-Roundhouse station, I found myself emerging at Davie and
Mainland. The beautiful blue, purple and pink lamps greeted me as I made
my way to the street and turned onto Mainland. The first exhibit I came
across was the carved ice sculptures. From a poised princess to a
cascading pyramid of cubes, they were absolutely a sight to see!
Making
my merry way further down Mainland, what was I to happen across but an
animated light show! It was being projected on the side of an apartment
building in a repetitive sequence about 20 minutes long. The most
interesting part was how the windows of the building were incorporated
into the animation.
The
fire show was great. The troop called Radiant Heat was called in to
perform. Daryl Markiewicz, a member of Radiant Heat for 6 months, said
it was his favourite performance he has participated in yet! He loved
the DJ’s beats and the fact that the show took place in a good, central
location, where many people could come and enjoy it.
I
wish the event went on longer than just 2 days but I would definitely
go again next year. I look forward to learning more about Vancouver’s
culture and nightlife, so you’ll be hearing from me soon! Tabbi
